Three New Members join the CMBTC for the Upcoming Year

WINNIPEG - The Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre (CMBTC) has announced that three companies involved in the malting barley trade -- Cargill AgHorizons, Alfred C. Toepfer ( Canada ) Ltd. and Parrish and Heimbecker Ltd --have become members of the organization for the 2004-05 crop year.

"Our membership now stands at 14, demonstrating industry confidence in the CMBTC as an important partner in assisting their malting barley business." said Rob McCaig, Managing Director of the CMBTC.

"We now provide technical support to the grower, the malting barley breeder, the handling companies and traders, and more importantly the maltsters and the brewers who are the customers of our product," he added.

The CMBTC, which started in August 2000, is an independent, non-profit organization funded by members of the malting barley and malt industry. The CMBTC is the focal point for applied malting and brewing research, education of customers on the Canadian malting barley industry and provides technical support to members and clients. CMBTC facilities include a state-of-the-art pilot malting plant and pilot brewery, located in the Canadian Grain Commission Building . CMBTC members are Agricore United, Busch Agricultural Resources-Canada, Canadian Wheat Board, Canadian Grain Commission, Canadian International Grains Institute, Dominion Malting, James Richardson International, Quality Assured Seeds, the Public Barley Breeders, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and SeCan.
